Introduction Of Coated Abrasive Backing Knowledge

Common backing types include the following:

Paper base: The paper base used in coated abrasives is manufactured according to unique manufacturing standards. The coated abrasives with the paper base as the back base are relatively flat and have unique adhesion, elasticity, weight, moisture absorption, and water resistance. Suitable for applications with low pressure and need to conform to the workpiece surface during application.

Cloth base: The cloth usually comprises cotton, polyester, polyester nylon, rayon, and cotton and polyester blends. Among the cloth bases, polyester nylon is stronger, straighter, and more expensive than polyester cloth. Polyester blended fabric is made of polyester fabric and cotton fabric, which has good strength, water resistance, and flexibility.

Cotton cloth is made of natural fibers, but it is not waterproof and has lightweight, and has good flexibility; - Man-made fibers are stronger than cotton cloth, can be waterproof, and can be made of a mixture of natural fibers and man-made fibers;

Polyester cloth is woven from stronger fibers than cotton cloth and artificial fibers. It is waterproof, has a good load-bearing capacity, and has the anti-wear ability.

Composite backing: This kind of backing is bonded by an E-paper base and cloth base. It has a good load-bearing capacity and a flat bottom surface, which can have better ductility than a paper base.

The fiber backing is made of vulcanized paper mixed with a cotton cloth. It is usually used to make a sand disc with a straight back, and the thickness is usually 0.6mm, 0.8mm, or 1.0mm. Thicker fiber backings are used to make straight discs suitable for heavy cutting, while thinner backings are used to make more flexible discs.

Sieve Backing: A sieve backing consists of many meshes. It is woven from polyester and bonded with abrasive mineral sand. Its open mesh can effectively prevent grinding objects from clogging. Mesh sizes are usually 18x18 and 21x21.

Mylar Backing: This backing is a smooth polyester film coated with fine-grained abrasive mineral sand. This backing provides consistent machining accuracy and low roughness values.
